Wood2Wood: A new Horizon Europe project kicked-off!
Τhe Wood2Wood (W2W) project kick-off meeting was held in Athens, Greece on February 19th and 20th, where participants delved into discussions surrounding circular economy principles and the valorisation of wood resources.
W2W will produce and validate a comprehensive framework for multi-dimensional cascade valorisation of wood from Construction & Demolition and furniture waste, consisting of four core components: 1) Advanced separation and sorting technologies, 2) Upcycling Processes and Technologies, 3) Digital Tools for Improving Circular Flows of Secondary Materials and 4) Supportive Framework in Policy, Market, and Skills.
In addition, W2W will demonstrate efficient and sustainable value chains in three (3) Use Cases through the use of technologies and tools that allow the selection of optimal cascade paths for further uses of wood products and their materials. The W2W holistic approach will reduce the demand for virgin materials, reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, allow for the creation of new value-added products from waste materials, and support the transition towards a circular economy by promoting closed loop systems where materials are continually repurposed and reused, extending their useful life.
The consortium, led by The Institute of Communication & Computer Systems (ICCS) consists of 25 partners from 9 EU countries and 1 from a non-EU countries: Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Cyprus and South Africa.
