MERGE: A new Horizon Europe project kicked off!

With a nearly €1.5 million budget, MERGE advances research on single-atom catalysis for biomass valorisation towards valuable green fuels and chemicals. This Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Union, officially commenced on September 2024 and will last 36 months.

MERGE advances research, innovation, and career-development practices, and creates a culture of excellence at the Technical University of Ostrava (VSB). To this end, it promotes collaborative research among VSB and organisations that are top-class experts in single-atom catalysts (SACs) for valorising waste biomass into green and high-value chemicals. At the same time, experienced and early-stage VSB researchers receive training, hands-on experience, and mentorship to further advance their scientific and technical expertise and project management/ administrative skills.

The project’s kick-off meeting took place on the 25th of September 2024, in Ostrava, Czechia, hosted at the Centre of Energy and Environmental Technologies (CEET) of the Technical University of Ostrava. The kick-off meeting saw all project partners converge to discuss their roles, responsibilities, and aspirations for the successful realization of the project’s specific objectives.

The MERGE consortium, under the leadership of CEET at Technical University of Ostrava, is composed of 4 partners across 4 European countries: Czechia, Italy, the Netherlands and Greece. The consortium members include: Technical University of Ostrava (VSB), Politecnico Di Milano (POLIMI), Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) and Q-PLAN INTERNATIONAL Advisors PC (Q-PLAN).
